Summary
The South East Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (SEAFO) is a regional fisheries management organization established under the Convention on the Conservation and Management of Fisheries Resources in the South East Atlantic Ocean, which entered into force in 2003. Headquartered in Swakopmund, Namibia, SEAFO is responsible for ensuring the long-term conservation and sustainable use of fishery resources in the high seas of the Southeast Atlantic Ocean beyond national jurisdictions. SEAFO adopts science-based and precautionary management measures for commercially important deep-sea species, promotes marine scientific research, combats illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, and protects vulnerable marine ecosystems from the impacts of fishing activities.
