Summary

The Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC) is an intergovernmental regional fisheries management organization responsible for the conservation and sustainable management of tuna and other highly migratory fish species in the eastern Pacific Ocean. Established by the Antigua Convention, the IATTC brings together coastal States and fishing nations to promote the long-term sustainability of tuna stocks, including yellowfin, bigeye, skipjack, and albacore tuna, as well as associated species. The Commission conducts scientific research, stock assessments, and monitoring programs, and adopts conservation and management measures such as catch limits, fishing effort controls, observer programs, and actions to reduce bycatch and combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
