Summary
The Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme (AMAP) Secretariat supports the work of the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme (AMAP), one of the six working groups of the Arctic Council established in 1991 to monitor and assess the impacts of pollution and climate change across the Arctic. The Secretariat coordinates international scientific collaboration among Arctic States, Indigenous Permanent Participants, research institutions, and expert groups, facilitating the production of authoritative assessments on contaminants, human health, biodiversity, climate change, ocean acidification, sea ice, permafrost, and other key environmental issues. AMAP provides science-based information and policy recommendations that inform decision-making by Arctic governments and contribute to major international environmental agreements, including the Stockholm Convention, the Minamata Convention on Mercury, and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
